Scope of Work:
The Faculty/Staff Lounge at the University Center is being renovated to provide a more comfortable and welcoming environment for faculty and staff to work, meet, and relax. The space will be fit out with modern furniture in 3 small groupings to facilitate conversation, with coffee tables and side tables designed and fabricated by Parsons alumni. We are pleased to be able to feature and support the work of our talented alumni.

President's Lobby Bookshelf

Location:

Room 800B.

Scope of Work: 
In order to showcase faculty publications, the President requested additional shelves for the 8th floor lobby at 66 West 12th Street. A custom, wall-mounted set of 5 shelves was fabricated by a local metalworker and installed to match the existing shelves there, which are used to display literature and pamphlets on The New School programs.

Exterior Graphics

Location:
UNIVERSITY CENTER - 63 FIFTH - BUILDING U
1 floor.

Scope of Work:
Distraction markings of the 1st floor windows of UC were applied in accordance with IRB specs on the exterior of the glass. It has undergone a number of vandalization and continues to be an ongoing problem and there are now many gaps in the text. This is still in the design phase and are contemplating that it be applied on the interior of the glass in hopes that it would not be subject to vandalism.

Sushi Bar

Location:
UNIVERSITY CENTER - 63 FIFTH - BUILDING U
2 floor.

Scope of Work:
Relocation of the sushi bar which was in the servery. Because of high capacity use, a new sushi bar is constructed within the seating space of the cafeteria. It includes all the equipment the previous sushi bar had. The previous sushi bar in servery will be utilized for other proposers and might involve new equipment and sinks.

Marketing & Communications - Merchandise Room

Location:
UNIVERSITY CENTER - 63 FIFTH - BUILDING U
Room 102.

Scope of Work:
Requested by Marketing & Communication, this project is to renovate existing storage room and turn it into a merchandise store. It is a collaboration among the Buildings Office, Marketing & Communication, Healthy Materials Lab, Parsons adjunct professor Noel Claro and her student Dino and Sam, and the Making Center's metal shop.

Timeline:
Project completion: August 12, 2016.

Wayfinding Additions

Location:
UNIVERSITY CENTER - 63 FIFTH - BUILDING U
All floors.

Scope of Work:
DVZ indicated that a number of people were finding difficulty in finding their way from here to there, so requested additional wayfinding to the original IRB wayfinding scheme. Buildings walked with M&C and suggested locations where additional signage could be installed. Mock ups were put up and agreed to, and it was determined that the actual wayfinding would be stenciled to the wall to be similar to what IRB had originally designed. This is being managed by M&C and this should be completed by the Fall semester.

Lang Improvements

Location:
EUGENE LANG COLLEGE - 65 W 11TH - BUILDING B
Cellar

Scope of Work:
The Dean requested an upgrade to lower level spaces at 65 W. 11th Street. A Facilities project to be completed before the fall semester. The first phase is replacing all the flooring in the lower level including waterproofing, replacing vinyl tiles with linoleum tiles, and repainting doors and frames. In addition, there has been a request for other improvements which have not been funded yet. One of the items still in the works is the courtyard, which was designed by MVVA. We have requested their assistance in upgrading the planting beds. They have retained a horticulturalist and will schedule her to come from MA to take a look at the courtyard and make recommendations for us. Thomas and Pat Baxter have a list of other improvements that have been discussed, including replacement furniture and other items.

HVAC Equipment Replacement

Location:
JOHNSON/KAPLAN HALL - 66 W 12TH - BUILDING A
Roof.

Scope of Work:
This project includes the removal of the two HVAC units from a difficult position, situated on a steel structure in the elevator machine room. The new unit is air cooled and will improve the ventilation from the 3rd floor to the 9th.
A 2-hour partition wall will be constructed between the elevator machine room and the mechanical room.

Timeline:
Scheduled completion: March 2017.

Drama / Library

Location:
ARNHOLD HALL - 55 W 13TH - BUILDING I
Room 901, 902 & 905.

Scope of Work:
There were a series of domino projects completed in order to create 2 new drama studios. The library staff was relocated from the 9th floor at 55 W.13th Street to 2 rooms at 66 w. 12th Street, 409 and 511. These rooms were gutted and completely redone and were occupied by the library staff during the summer of 2016. The library staff rooms at 55 W.13th Street were then converted into drama studios. It involved some demolition followed by the installation of new Marley-type dance flooring, new lighting, painting and additional AV.

Drama / Library

Room 409 & 511.

Scope of Work:

Shades - University Center

Location:
UNIVERSITY CENTER - 63 FIFTH - BUILDING U
6 & 7 floor.

Scope of Work:
The residences across the street from UC had long complained about light infiltration from UC spaces at night. It was determined that we would use a remote controlled, battery powered shading system by Lutron. That has been installed and is working. We received a Thank You email from one of the neighbors.

XRC II

Location:
SHEILA JOHNSON DESIGN CENTER
68 FIFTH - BUILDING M
3 & 4 floor.

Scope of Work:
There were multiple schemes for moving XRC out of the 18th floor, where they were temporarily parked, into 68 Fifth. First they were moved onto the 2nd floor. Ultimately they were moved onto floors 3 and 4 at 68 Fifth. The work involved clean up and fix up, and providing a/c, some additional lighting and power.

Parsons - Hybrid Design Studio

7 floor

Scope of Work:
Basically a furniture and involved some power. Basically to provide enough furniture and equipment of various kinds (sewing machines, pattern tables, rolling tables) so that the room could be used for a variety of things. It has been experimental (check with Nadine for results).
